Certifications Buyers Should Ask For
Certifications are where experienced buyers separate serious factories from traders. Here are the marks that matter for heated apparel, in plain language.
CE and RoHS (European Union)
CE covers electrical safety of the heating system under the Low Voltage and EMC directives. RoHS restricts hazardous substances in electronics. Both are mandatory for EU sales and Amazon EU listings.
UL / ETL (United States)
UL or ETL listing for the battery pack and charger is effectively required by US retailers and strongly recommended for liability coverage.
UN38.3 (Worldwide, for Shipping)
Lithium batteries cannot legally fly or sail without UN38.3 transport test summaries. Always ask for the test summary document — not just a certificate number.
FCC and UKCA
FCC applies to any garment with Bluetooth or wireless control. UKCA is the post-Brexit UK equivalent of CE.
A Practical Checklist
- Battery pack: UL or CE + UN38.3 summary
- Full garment: CE/EMC or FCC where wireless control exists
- Fabrics: REACH compliance for EU
- Documents: test reports dated within 3 years, matching your exact battery model
