Heated Vest Sizing and Fit: A Buyer’s Guide
Heated vests are the entry product for most heated apparel brands — low MOQ, broad appeal and year-round layering use. Getting the size curve right is the difference between low returns and a customer service nightmare.
The Fitting Problem Is Real
A heated vest must sit close enough to the body for efficient heat transfer, yet leave room for a mid-layer. That means your grading must assume the vest is worn over a sweater or fleece, not directly on a t-shirt.
Recommended Approach
Size your vest pattern to the same chest measurements as your base layer line, then add 4-6cm of wearing ease at the chest. Verify with fitting sessions on two body types per size before approving the size run.
Standard Size Ratios for B2B
- US/EU unisex lines: S 10% / M 25% / L 30% / XL 20% / 2XL 15%
- Workwear channels skew larger: cut more XL-3XL than fashion lines
- Women’s-specific lines: offer XS and shift the curve down one size
Details That Reduce Returns
- Side stretch panels or adjustable hems to cover mid-layer variance
- Battery pocket positioned to balance weight, not hang on one side
- Clear size chart in cm/inches on every product page and box
